This day trip offers an exciting look at Gifu, starting with a scenic ride on the Kinkazan Ropeway. At the top, you’ll visit the historic Gifu Castle, nestled at the highest point of Mount Kinka, where you can explore samurai artifacts and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valley and mountains. After taking the ropeway back down, the journey continues with a peaceful visit to Shōbō-ji Temple, featuring the impressive Great Buddha statue. From there, you’ll take a break with a traditional Japanese lunch, before moving on with a stroll through the traditional wooden houses in the Kawaramachi area. Here you can sample Ayu Manju, a local sweet, and browse many artisan shops as you search for the perfect souvenir.

  • Ride the Kinkazan Ropeway to the top of Mt. Kinka
  • Explore an ancient castle and learn about samurai history at the Gifu Castle Museum
  • Savor the local food
  • Behold the second of Japan’s Great Buddha Statues at Shōbō-ji Temple
